A Mediterranean retreat in Mallorca

In Mallorca, Spain, a couple discovered a home built in 1992, set on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean and the Tramuntana Mountains.

Designer Michael S. Smith transformed the interior without altering its structure. The decor brings together elements of Mallorcan culture with influences from Spain, France, Italy, England, and North Africa.

Furniture, textiles, ceramics, and traditional patterns helped create a home with personality and a strong connection to its surroundings.

More than simply transforming spaces, the project shows how our choices can give a home its identity — bringing together references from places, cultures, and experiences that become part of our story.

A home is not just where we live. It is part of the story we are building.
